Send an invoice with payments enabled
When you create an invoice, toggle online payments on and choose whether to accept card, or bank transfer. Your client gets a "Pay Now" button.
Client pays, you're done
They click the button and pay with the method you've enabled. Dave marks the invoice as paid automatically. The money goes to your bank.

Online payments are optional. For each invoice, you decide whether to include the payment button or not. Some jobs you might want cash. Some clients prefer checks. Some you'll want paid online. Your call.
When online payments are off, you can add your own payment instructions β like "Make checks payable to..." or "Venmo @yourhandle" β whatever works for you.

Dave partners with Stripe to handle all payment processing. Why does that matter to you?
Dave never sees sensitive payment data. Card numbers, bank accounts β none of that touches our servers. Your customers enter payment info directly into Stripe's secure form.
Stripe is battle-tested. They process payments for Amazon, Shopify, and millions of businesses. They've been doing this since 2010.
Your Stripe account is yours. With Stripe Express, you get your own connected account. If you ever stopped using Dave, your payment history and setup stays with Stripe.
Common questions
Do I have to use online payments?
No. Online payments are completely optional. You can turn them on or off for any invoice. Prefer cash or checks? No problem β just add your own payment instructions and Dave won't show the payment button. You're in control.
What's the catch with the fees?
There's no catch. The fees listed are exactly what you pay. Dave doesn't add anything on top of Stripe's rates. Card payments cost more than bank transfers because that's how the payment industry works. We just pass through the cost.
How long until I get my money?
Card payments typically arrive in 2 business days. ACH/EFT bank transfers take 3-5 business days to clear, then another 2 days to reach your account. Once Stripe releases the funds, we send them straight to you β no holding period from our side.
Is this secure? Who has my customers' card info?
Stripe handles all sensitive payment data β not Dave. Your customers enter their info directly into Stripe's secure payment form. We never see or store card numbers, bank accounts, or any of that. Stripe is PCI-compliant and processes billions of dollars for companies like Amazon and Shopify.
What's a Stripe Express account?
It's a payment account that Stripe manages for you. When you enable online payments in Dave, you'll create a Stripe Express account (takes about 5 minutes). Stripe handles all the compliance stuff β you just collect payments.
What if my customer disputes a payment?
Disputes are handled through Stripe. They'll notify you and you can submit evidence (like your signed contract or photos from Dave). This is another reason having good documentation in Dave helps protect your business.
Can my customers pay partial amounts?
If you set up your invoice with multiple line items or progress payments, customers can pay what's due. For full invoice payments, they pay the total shown. Structure your invoices how you want to be paid.
I'm old school. Why should I bother with this?
Look, if checks and cash work for you, keep doing that. But if you've ever had a client "forget" to pay, or spent time driving to pick up a check, or waited weeks for a payment to clear β online payments solve those problems.
