Dave vs Housecall Pro
Choose Housecall Pro when booking, dispatch, and recurring service visits drive the business. Choose Dave when your crew sells quoted projects and needs estimates, client options, job records, schedules, and invoices together.
How the workflows differ
A practical look at where each product fits, and what small project-based crews should consider before choosing their contractor software.
Service visits and quoted projects need different checks
Housecall Pro is built around field-service operations. Dave focuses on project-based trade work. If your business does both, test a busy service day and a multi-day installation before choosing.
Both products help with estimates and billing
The decision is not whether one can send an invoice. Compare how an approved scope becomes scheduled work, how changes are recorded, and how the customer pays.
Compare the AI task and its price
Housecall Pro offers AI tools for service businesses, including a paid call-answering feature. Dave’s AI works with estimates, invoices, scheduling, and project information. Do not assume those assistants perform the same tasks.

Dave vs Housecall Pro: for small crews
When Housecall Pro fits better
Housecall Pro is a strong candidate when the office needs to book calls, assign technicians, adjust routes, and keep customers updated throughout the day. Recurring maintenance and urgent service calls make those capabilities especially relevant.
Trial a realistic day with several visits. Move one appointment, reassign a technician, inspect the customer notification, and check the route. Then confirm which tier includes that exact workflow. A software demo with one appointment will not reveal how well it fits a busy service schedule.
When Dave fits better
Dave is designed for work sold as a project: a deck, fence, patio, remodel, or installation with a defined scope and price. The owner can keep estimates, optional upgrades, approved changes, field notes, visits, and invoices attached to the client and job.
An HVAC or plumbing installation contractor could fit that pattern, while an emergency repair dispatcher may need the service-oriented tools above. The trade name alone does not decide the answer. The daily workflow does.
Example: compare an installation and a service day
Use a fictional fence installation with a base scope, one optional gate, two scheduled workdays, and a later approved change. In each product, check what the customer accepts, what the crew sees, and which items reach the invoice.
If your business also maintains recurring customers, add a separate service-day exercise. The right choice must handle the work you actually repeat. These are suggested trial tasks, not results from a hands-on comparison.
AI and switching questions to ask
Housecall Pro’s AI Team page distinguishes included assistants from paid call answering. Ask about the specific task, usage charges, and approval behavior you need. Dave does not have a verified equivalent to an AI phone receptionist.
Before switching, check customer and document exports, unresolved invoices, recurring schedules, and any payment arrangements. We have not verified a native Housecall Pro-to-Dave migration. Test a small set of records and preserve the originals before moving active work.
