Dave vs Bluebeam

Choose Bluebeam when you need to measure, mark up, and coordinate construction drawings. Choose Dave when you already have the scope and quantities and need to quote, schedule, document, and invoice the work. Some crews need both.

How the workflows differ

A practical look at where each product fits, and what small project-based crews should consider before choosing their contractor software.

01

Start with the missing step

A drawing takeoff and a customer estimate are different tasks. Bluebeam helps establish and communicate quantities from plans. Dave applies your supplied scope and saved prices to the project paperwork.

02

Keep the drawing tool when you need it

Dave does not replace scaled PDF measurement, drawing overlays, or Studio collaboration. If those are daily requirements, keep a dedicated drawing workflow and assess Dave for the work that follows.

03

Compare seats and billing periods

Bluebeam uses annual per-user subscriptions. Dave includes two seats at $99/month or $948/year. Bluebeam can cost less when drawing tools are all you need; the subscriptions cover different jobs.

Dave vs Bluebeam: for small crews

When Bluebeam is the better choice

If your day starts with a revised plan set, measurement scales, and questions marked on drawings, trial Bluebeam first. Those are specialist tasks. Replacing them with a general estimate draft would move essential quantity checks back onto the estimator.

Its subscription matrix distinguishes basic measurements from advanced tools. Bring an actual drawing to the trial, calibrate the scale, measure a known dimension, and check the exports you need. Test your intended device rather than assuming the Windows, browser, and mobile experiences are identical.

When Dave is the better choice

Dave fits a contractor who has already measured a fence, deck, or remodel and wants to turn that scope into an estimate, offer client options, collect approval, schedule the crew, and invoice accepted work. Photos and field notes stay with the project.

Its AI Estimate Builder can help organize supplied job information and saved prices. It is not proof that a photo or plan has been measured correctly. Keep responsibility for quantities, cost inputs, and exclusions with the contractor.

Example: a patio drawing becomes a customer quote

For a hypothetical 20-by-20-foot patio, establish the 400-square-foot area in the drawing or on site. Separately decide cutting waste, base preparation, drainage, and access. A measured area alone does not establish the complete installation price.

If Bluebeam supplies the takeoff, review the quantities before using them in Dave. Attach the reference document or import a prepared spreadsheet, then verify the recreated values. We have not verified a native Bluebeam-to-Dave integration. Do not assume drawing revisions automatically update the customer estimate.

A short trial checklist

Test one drawing revision, one changed quantity, and one revised customer quote. Check whether you can identify the current plan, explain the price change, and find the approved scope before invoicing.

If you only need PDF markups, Dave is not a substitute. If measuring is already solved and the problem is unfinished estimates or invoices, focus the trial on that administrative work. Buying both is sensible only when each removes a real gap.
